We provide a wide range of services covering many different
problems and areas of specialty care within physiotherapy.
Musculo-Skeletal
Problems
Musculo-skeletal physiotherapy is for problems that affect
the bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments as well as the nerves that go to or
pass these structures.Common
musculoskeletal injuries include back and neck problems as well as shoulder
injuries (rotator cuff tears and impingement), tennis elbow, tendonitis, hip
pain, knee and ankle injuries.
Spinal Pain
Back and neck pain, sciatica, headaches, whiplash
The majority of us will experience neck or back pain at some
stage in our lives.Unfortunately, if
you experience it once there is a much greater chance that it will
re-occur.For some, back and neck
problems are a minor inconvenience but for others, the problems can be very
limiting or keep coming back, often triggered by minor movements.Helping you get over the pain and disability
of spinal pain is one of areas of specialty practice. However, our treatment and training can help
you minimise the severity and frequency of your spinal pain episodes.
Sports Injury
Management
While participating in sport is generally good for your well
being, injuries occur from time to time.In our experience preventative measures can help reduce the likelihood
of injuries but just as in general life, accidents do occur. When they do occur, correct management is
important to achieving the fastest recovery that the body can achieve.
We see injuries arising from both contact and non contact
sports.Different sports have different
injury profiles – injuries more common to that particular sport.Knowing this and being familiar with these
types of injuries and sporting techniques helps us get you back to sport
quicker.Knowing your sport also helps
in establishing effective injury prevention measures.
For example ACL injuries and other knee ligament injuries
occur more frequently in sports such as Football, netball and touch football
where rapid changes in direction challenge the body to cope. These sports also challenge the ankle where
ankle sprains are relatively more common in comparison to athletics where
overuse injuries and muscle strains are more common. However, just because an injury might be more
frequent in a particular sport, it is vital that proper assessment helps
exclude other injuries which might be less common but more serious. What might appear to be a ‘simple’ ankle
sprain, may involve other structures which if not addressed can lead to slower
recovery or longer term problems.
Football / Netball / Ankle and knee injuries, ligament tears
Hand Injuries
We have experts to help manage the simple to the complex
hand injury. Work accidents with fractures or tendon damage often need expert
supervision to maximise recovery for this important part of our bodies.Carpal tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis, Dupryten’s
contracture, arthritis affecting the thumb are just a few of the common
problems that our Hand Therapists can assist you with.
Orthopaedic Management
Casting & splinting, water-tolerant casts for arm and
leg fractures, total knee and hip replacement rehabilitation.
We can help you recover more quickly after fractures, and
get you going once your fractures have healed.Knowing what you can do to help yourself after surgery or injury,
improves your recovery, along with the treatment to reduce your pain and the
stiffness which often comes with these problems.
Women's Health
Ante and post natal care, Mastectomy rehabilitation and
support and Incontinence rehabilitation are specialist areas where accurate
diagnosis is important to implementing the right treatment.
Paediatric Care
Talipes correction, scoliosis, hip dysplasia, ‘clicky’ hips,
developmental delay.
Even with fairly significant problems, children have great
potential to recover, typically more than adults – If they are supported in the
right ways.A team approach is often
vital to help children gain the most from treatment. Our team is used to liaising with
Paediatricians and other health professionals as well as the all important
family.
GaitScan Foot
Assessment and Gait Analysis
Gaitscan helps us help you.GaitScan is a very powerful tool which adds a great deal of information
in assessments of the foot in normal walking.Gaitscan is a pressure plate which provides information on the way your
foot is striking the ground and adapting to forces. While there are other pressure plates
available, we chose the Gaitscan for a number of reasons:
qIt
has an industry high number of sensors and simply put the more sensors the
better the information that can be gained from it.It can be like the difference between a crisp
sharp picture from a top of the line digital SLR camera compared to the
slightly out of focus snap on a cheap model camera.
qThe
software behind the Gaitscan provides the real power for the insights needed in
in the prescription of orthotics as well as in the assessment of lower limb
problems. The refined information provides additional information on
variations in gait that can be contibuting to or signs of dysfunction in the
knee hip or back.
WBV is a relatively new development in the management of a
range of musculo-skeletal conditions.It
was first developed in Russia
to assist in the rehabilitation of cosmonauts, who suffered from loss of bone
mass and muscle wastage after periods of prolonged weightlessness.Following the greater access to the Soviet
Union since the 1990’s, the technique was brought to Europe and more recently Australia.Since then it has become a clinical tool to
treat conditions that range from osteoporosis to enhanced strength training
efficiency. While there are a number of
such units available –some can even be found in gyms and department stores- it
is knowing when and how to apply (and more importantly when NOT to apply) WBV
that makes the difference in results.
