Western acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal disorders including muscle and soft tissue pain, joint pain, arthritis, neck and back pain to name a few. This approach has been shown to have local effects, spinal effects and supraspinal effects to influence pain, and can assist with reducing muscle tension and restoration of muscle balance. Dry needling is a form of western acupuncture technique aimed at treating myofascial (muscle and fascia) disorders with localised needling of the area instead of using more traditional “hands-on” physiotherapy techniques. These needling techniques are well tolerated and well-liked by patients due to the quick results gained during a treatment session.
